The non-profit eDiscovery Institute launches its new website and its new identity – The Law Institute – reflecting the ever-expanding scope of our mission to measure, report and teach about technologies used in litigation and investigations, and particularly in the litigation discovery arena.  We have had a busy year, publishing three great studies and several articles, all of which are available for download free of charge from this site.   The Judges' Guide to Cost-Effective E-Discovery is receiving a wonderful reception from the judiciary and counsel and has been a meaningful step in further educating judges and lawyers.  Hard copies of the Judges' Guide were given to everyone who attended our annual Pizza Party fundraiser on November 18 at the Georgetown Advanced E-Discovery Institute. Many thanks to our wonderful sponsors, all very special participants in the e-discovery world who understand the value of “opening the kimono” of technology.   Which brings up the question:  why do we need The Law Institute?  It’s all about education – simply, lawyers need to change the way data is handled in litigation to keep up with technology, but they can’t change their usual process unless they are confident that the changed process works. The Law Institute works to give them the confidence they need to change – by providing independent and free studies that measure how technology works and education that teaches the knowledge they need to make sensible decisions about managing and using technology.
